Mikołajska Street is one of the oldest streets in Krakow. Its history dates back to the founding of the city in 1257, and many indications suggest that the route passed through here even earlier, before Christianity took root in this part of Małopolska.

In the past, it was one of the main roads leading east towards Ruthenia. Initially, it was called Butchers’ Street because near the old city walls there were slaughterhouses and the Butchers’ Gate. Over the centuries, the street changed its course, but it retained its medieval character, which can still be seen today in the tenements and cellars of Krakow's Old Town.

The tenement at Mikołajska 24 also has its own story. During the German occupation from 1939 to 1945, Polish underground structures operated here. The building housed a secret warehouse for the chemical department and a store of explosives related to the activities of the "Insurance Company."

In the vicinity of the Main Market Square and Mikołajska Street, there were numerous conspiratorial actions, sabotage, and activities of the resistance movement. Today, this place creates another chapter in its history as Black Gallery Pub, one of the most atmospheric pubs in Krakow's Old Town.
